The
former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru Hockey
Tournament Society, Shri Ram Niwas Mirdha is a multifaceted
personality. A former union minister, who handled
a vast number of portfolios, both in his native
state of Rajasthan and the Indera Gandhi and Rajiv
Gandhi Governments in Delhi. He entered into the
political arena in 1953 when he become a member
of Rajasthan Assembly. Soon he became a minister
in the State and later Speaker of the Assembly (1957-67).
He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Barmer in Rajasthan
in 1991 and held the post of the Chairman, Joint
Parliamentary Committee to enquire into irregularities
in Securities and Banking Transactions in 1992.
